A growing crackdown by Chinese against environmental protection advocates!

The incident at the Cement factory is part of a growing crackdown by Chinese authorities against Tibetans advocating for environmental protection. Just last week, Radio Free Asia reported that five Tibetans were injured when police moved in to stop protests against mine operations in Markham, another part of eastern Tibet. News of these protests come almost a year after Tibetans in the area successfully shut down a mine operation at the sacred Ser Ngul Lo mountain.

Chinese police open fire on a group of Tibetans

Just days ago, Chinese police opened fire on a group of Tibetans outside a cement factory in Madang Township, Labrang County, Amdo in eastern Tibet (Ch: Xiahe, Gansu province). At least 15 people were injured from gun wounds or beatings by the police. Tibetans in the area have been campaigning to stop the pollution caused by the factory, which, sources say, spews out so much dust that it is "difficult to open one's eyes."

Tibet is a Special Interest Issue, but Human Rights is Not...The key to Change in China & Tibet. by Wm Kai Stephanos

That is the most important factor in winning support for Tibet: Human Rights. Human Rights violations are happening on a much larger scale to the Han than any other ethnic group in China by shear numbers alone. That is the reason we need to always be inclusive of the Han and not be "racist" toward them. They are the key to sustainable change and growth within the Chinese system and the only way to ameliorate Tibet's greatest problems arising from the CCP occupation. The CCP tortures and oppresses all of the Chinese people and that is what the world needs to know. Tibet is basically a special interest that only appeals to certain people, but the larger story of what China is doing is much more universal and can/will appeal to a much larger audience, thus initiating greater feedback from the international community. Not only is China breaking their own laws, they are breaking international laws and those set up by the WTO and other trade organizations. If trade and profit is put in jeopardy, the CCP will/must take that very seriously. The bottom line for them is money and economics right now. It used to be politics for the CCP, but it has shifted to pure economics. If we can expose the Human Rights atrocities to the world, the CCP will be forced to mitigate these acts in order to preserve their holy trade arrangements with the West. This will have a counter effect of also benefiting Tibet as well. If we continue down the 'Free Tibet' path, I fear it will only be used against Tibet and Tibetans for ever and used divisively to tear Tibet apart even more. Any thoughts?

CCPland Bad Dream by Wm Kai Stephanos

The US stock Market is actually higher than it has ever been in all of history. The Euro is strong hard money while the Chinese Yuan is worthless outside of CCPland.

Let's be realistic here. Without Western money the Chinese Empire would stop growing and the real estate bubble in China is bound to pop soon and it will have devastating effects on the small Middle class and the even smaller Upper class. The peasants will go deeper into poverty but will survive because that is what they do. Keep blaming Japan for all their atrocities while the CCP has killed MILLIONS of its OWN people, more than any other country in all of human history. Chinese are living in a bad dream that is so clouded with pollution you can't even see the sun or the moon (just like in Beijing). So sad. The world is not against China, just China teaches this pathetic victim mentality to its people. They do such a good job at it. So Sad

50 Years in Exile: Tibetans in Dharamsala, India!

Dharamshala: The Central Tibetan Administration and government-in-exile today organized a two day event in Dari Ground, near Dharamshala. The event which took place this morning was entitled "Thank You Himachal Pradesh", and marked the 50th anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's arrival to Dharamshala, India, on the 13th April 1960. The event was held to express the Tibetan people's gratitude towards the Himachal people and their government.

Present at the ceremony was the exiled Tibetan leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama; Professor Prem Kumar Dhumal, the honorable Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh; Professor Samdhong Rinpoche, the Prime Minister of the Tibetan government-in-exile together with other senior Tibetan and Indian officials.

In His Holiness the Dalai Lama's key note speech he expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the consistent and ongoing aid and support received from the Himachal people over the last 50 years. "On behalf of 6 million Tibetan people, I thank the government and the people of Himachal Pradesh for providing sincere help and support for the exiled Tibetans." He observed that in comparison to other exiled communities around the world the Tibetans are more united and developed, and this could not have been achieved without the help of Indian central government as well as Himachal Pradesh. Moreover, the joint hard work of both the Tibetan and Indian people and their governments has enabled Tibetan settlements to exist and flourish throughout India.
